چکیده

An exploratory, qualitative experiment sheds light on the depictive theory of mental imagery. The study analyzes the very operations subjects undertake when solving visuospatial tasks. Preliminary results indicate that subjects do not make use of stable mental images: instead, they continuously assemble and reassemble different perspectives through the guidance of heuristics and prototypes. These observations allow a reinterpretation of mental imagery. We want to forward the hypotheses that a) the assembly process itself is of much higher importance than usually acknowledged; b) that an assembled perspective (or figure) is defined by one’s orientation towards certain operations; and c), that heuristics and prototypes are instantiated by a heterarchical organization of mental operations.

knowledge and inference. The prevalence of spatial figures of speech in everyday talk attests to that: we feel close to some people and remote from others, we try to keep our spirits up, to perform at the peak of our powers, to avoid falling into depressions, pits, or quagmires; we

SHORT REPORT Cortical Underconnectivity Coupled with Preserved Visuospatial Cognition in Autism: Evidence from an fMRI Study of an Embedded Figures Task

Individuals with high-functioning autism sometimes exhibit intact or superior performance on visuospatial tasks, in contrast to impaired functioning in other domains such as language comprehension, executive tasks, and social functions. The goal of the current study was to investigate the neural bases of preserved visuospatial processing in highfunctioning autism from the perspective of the cor...

Abnormal global processing along the magnocellular visual pathway in autism: a possible mechanism for weak visuospatial coherence?

Frith and Happé (1994) argue that individuals with autism exhibit ‘weak central coherence’: an inability to integrate elements of information into coherent wholes. Some authors have speculated that a higher-level impairment might be present in the magnocellular visual pathway in autism, and furthermore, that this might account for weak central coherence, at least at the visuospatial level. We a...

in the past decade, paying attention to the vertical fliers has been noted by most of the scientist and researchers, because of their exclusive features. The special capabilities of these, reducing radar identifier, low risk for human life, no restrictions on size and uses such as photography, survey, press coverage, checking, power lines, meteorological analysis, traffic, monitoring, in urban ...
